• Annual Tree-Planting Campaigns at Herzo Base
The annual tree-planting campaigns at Herzo Base create additional wooded areas that provide shade and habitats for animals and plants. Planting new trees is intended to strengthen green spaces in the long term, provide shade and promote natural evaporation. At the same time, the campaigns contribute to preserving habitats for animals and plants and further improving the quality of public spaces in Herzogenaurach. The tree-planting activities also demonstrate how local measures can make a tangible contribution to climate resilience. Further joint planting activities are planned to continue developing species-rich and climate-adapted green spaces.
• Reforestation Campaign in the Forest near Höfen (07.12.2023)
Through a joint reforestation campaign, Herzo United contributed to preserving and strengthening regional forest areas. 34 employees from adidas, PUMA, Schaeffler, Herzo Werke and the city administration planted a new forest on a site near Höfen covering around 1,300 square metres. The aim of the project was to promote biodiversity and make the forest area more resilient to the long-term impacts of climate change. The initiative was professionally supported by the local forestry officers of the Herzogenaurach forestry district. The planting focused on promoting biodiversity and strengthening the forest area through site-appropriate species selection in the long term. The campaign demonstrates how joint local engagement can have a tangible impact on environmental and climate protection. Further joint activities of this kind are already planned.
• Insect World – Supporting Wild Bees (13.03.2024)
With the “Insect World” project, the City of Herzogenaurach and Schaeffler are jointly promoting biodiversity. A large wild bee nesting structure was installed on a green space at Herzogenaurach Middle School, providing nesting opportunities for wild bees such as the red mason bee and various scissor bee species. The combination of reed tubes, drilled wood and tubular structures creates suitable nesting sites for species that naturally use cavities in plant stems or wood.
Due to intensive forest use and the removal of dead trees, more and more natural structures and habitats are being lost. Deadwood, in particular, is an important habitat for numerous insect species and can also provide valuable nesting opportunities for wild bees. The project helps to deliberately replace such habitats while raising awareness of the importance of insects.
Wild bees are particularly valuable because they make a crucial contribution to pollination, for example of fruit trees and crops such as tomatoes and peppers. Without their pollination services, many plants would produce lower yields and the diversity of our food supply would be significantly reduced.
The aim is to create new habitats while raising awareness of the important role insects play in our ecosystem. The initiative is also intended to strengthen awareness of biodiversity and make the topic of species diversity tangible in everyday life through the visible placement of the wild bee nesting structure. The project combines practical measures with education and demonstrates how even small contributions can have a positive impact on nature and the environment.
• Film Screening at the Open-Air Cinema in Herzogenaurach (15.06.2026)
At the open-air cinema in Herzogenaurach, the film “Das Flüstern der Wälder” (“The Whisper of the Forests”) was used to raise awareness of biodiversity loss and nature conservation. In addition to the film, visitors received seeds and practical tips for protecting nature in their everyday lives. The initiative aimed to demonstrate how even small actions can contribute to protecting the environment and biodiversity. At the same time, the event highlighted the importance of community engagement in preserving biodiversity. Further participation in the open-air cinema and other local events is planned.
• Stadtradeln STADTRADELN 2026 (09.05. – 29.05.2026)
The city of Herzogenaurach has been participating in the STADTRADELN campaign organised by Klima-Bündnis Services for many years. The initiative aims to encourage people to cycle in their everyday lives and promote more climate-friendly mobility, reduced traffic and improved quality of life. Over a period of 21 consecutive days, participants form teams and aim to cycle as many kilometres as possible. The amount of CO₂ emissions avoided as a result is also calculated.
In 2026, Herzo United Climate Action took part in the campaign. Through active promotion among the participating companies and generous sponsorship, both the number of participants and the number of kilometres cycled increased significantly, reaching their highest levels to date. To encourage young people in particular to use bicycles for their everyday journeys, a separate ranking for school teams was introduced for the first time. At an awards ceremony in June, the best teams and individual cyclists in the various categories were recognised. As a token of appreciation, prizes included a bicycle service station, bike safety checks, ice cream vouchers and other prizes. The joint participation in STADTRADELN demonstrates how sustainable mobility can be encouraged through simple and engaging activities in everyday life.
